Reviews of Every Class I Took at Andover and Rye Country Day |
Freshman Year (RCDS)
English 9: Greek plays really brought mommy issues to the max
Honors Bio: GCAT or CGUA 🍉
Honors Algebra II: Ms. Khan is never letting another interviewing teacher teach us again
Honors Spanish 3: Guantanamera, Guajira Guantamera!
Honors French Intensive: Ohhh noooo, qu’est-ce que Rachid fait??
AP Comp Sci: Dude I spent all this time learning Java and I haven’t used it since
World History 9: I remember more talk about Irish and meadows than about the Mongol conquests
Sophomore/Lower Year
English 200: Mary Oliver might be a goated poet after all
History 201: So I think Christopher Columbus was not a great guy
Math 380 (Precalc): Those math majors were tough af
Chemistry 550 (AP Chem): That feeling when you need to derive the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation for a Spring 6-level question
Spanish 401: Debating Spain’s economics was not on my bucket list for fall-term Andover
Phys Ed 200: There’s nothing like helping the gym teacher (120lb MAX) belay a 6’4” 230lb baseball recruit
PHR 360 (Proof and Persuasion): I got all excited doing formal logic for the first week and then I had to write papers on epistemic bubbles :(
CSC 403 (Discrete Math): This is actually pretty cool, I sure hope no monstrosities are made from this…
Music 410 (The Musical Brain): So this explains why I have to chant some stupid tiktok audio under my breath while playing hockey
Chinese 623 (Chinglish): I enjoyed doing the play but got a level so… you win some you lose some I guess?
Math 580 (Intro to Calc): We talked about limits for so long and I don’t even think we did l’hopitals
Theatre 901 (A Production of Good Kids): I am shocked at how few lines we screwed up during the actual performance given how terrible our dress runs were
Physics 551 (AP Physics C Mechanics Pt. 1): Thank goodness for the “drop your worst test” policy because test two I did NOT see the back page (not that I was going to finish it anyways)
Junior/Upper Year
English 300: Never before have I thought so analytically about symbolism and gender roles and colonial power dynamics (yeah I read feminist literature, what about it?)
History 300: She Manifest on my Destiny til I engage in ethnocide through Native American boarding schools
Math 590 (Calc BC): Sometimes I’d solve the last challenge problem worth two points and I’d get the basic derivative questions wrong (worth 8 pts each) because my brain was in integral mode
Physics 552 (Physics C Mechanics Pt. 2): Why were our homework problems so much more challenging than test problems?? I swear I had to consult the answer key basically every homework assignment
Physics 553 (Physics C E&M Pt. 3): So my analogy for electrical force and gravitational force did not work 1:1 much to my embarrassment
Physics 554 (Physics C E&M Pt. 4): RC? LC? RL? What is going on? I'd rather derive your equations every test than have to memorize Q(t) = CE(1 - e-t/RC)
Chemistry 610/620 (Organic Chemistry): Unironically probably the most fun class I’ve been in – after all, sigmas go where they’re needed
Math 535 (Stats Pt. 1): Correlation ≠ Causation. Nuff said
Chemistry 487 (Environmental Chemistry): If anything remotely watershed or environmentally related comes up in conversation I will be telling people to wash their cars on soil
Physics 600 (Modern Physics): Gee, I sure hope Farmer John’s 15 light year long barn does not have a ladder of 9 light years moving at 0.6c!
